What Type of Escape Room Player Are You?

If you’ve ever done an escape room before, then you know that your team members tend to break down into different roles as the game continues. Maybe this is something just natural that we do—something in our DNA just makes us want to cooperate. Or, otherwise, maybe it’s something we learn over time as we grow.

Whatever the case, it seems like the type of problem solver we are in a group tells us something about ourselves. With that in mind, taking a closer look at the type of escape room player you are might just be a great way to learn something about yourself.

In this month’s blog post, we’re discussing different types of escape room players and what their personalities might be like.

The Analyzer

You know you’re the analyzer if you love solving puzzles, interpreting existing information, and are always trying to connect the dots. When in an escape room, you may find yourself gathering and categorizing all available information, so that everything you need to solve the next puzzle is immediately available to you.

If you’re the analyzer, then you may be:

  • A big-picture thinker
  • Ordered and logical in your thought process
  • Naturally curious about the world

The Leader

While the analyzer is busy organizing information, the leader is busy organizing people. You know you’re the leader if your first instinct in an escape room is to figure out the tasks that need to be done and delegate those tasks to your teammates. While some people think “delegation” is a fancy way to say “get other people to do the work for you,” you know that giving people direct, actionable goals is essential for everyone’s success. Though, being able to delegate the tasks you don’t want to do is certainly a bonus, as well.

If you’re the leader, then you’re likely to be:

  • A blend of practical and idealistic
  • A people person
  • Goal-oriented and dedicated

The Investigator

In an escape room (and in life), the investigator is the type of person who’s always searching for the pieces to a puzzle and finding things that don’t quite fit into normal life. While others are busy chattering amongst themselves or quibbling over the details, the investigator is taking action and searching every nook and cranny.

If you’re the investigator, then you’re probably:

  • Inquisitive about things that don’t seem “quite right”
  • Both an intuitive and critical thinker
  • More excited about opening new doors than closing old ones
