3 Bowling Tips from Spare Time Entertainment
To us here at Spare Time Entertainment, bowling is one of the best pastimes in East Lansing. For us, what makes bowling such a great sport is its blend of skill, competition, and relaxation. Whether you want to relax and throw a few balls with your family or get into a competitive spirit on your bowling leagues, bowling is exactly as intense as you want it to be.
That said, even if you want your bowling outing to be relaxing, it’s definitely more fun when you’re doing well at it. In that spirit, we’re taking this month’s blog post to discuss five bowling tips for your next night out.
Don’t Aim for the Pins
This tip always surprises people—after all, shouldn’t you look where your bowling ball is going?
While it’s true that you need to look where you want to throw the ball, you shouldn’t just aim for the pins in general. The pins are a large, wide target, and hitting them straight-on will product much different results than hitting the 7 or 10 pins on the edge. Instead, we recommend that you aim for the “pocket,” or the space between the 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 pins. Aiming for the pocket will give you a much more concrete place to aim, which will increase your accuracy. On top of that, the pocket is the best place to throw the ball if you want to land a strike.
Swing with a Straight Arm
When you send the bowling ball down the lane, make sure to do it with a straight arm. The lane is not only long, but also surprisingly thin, and even a slight angle on your bowling ball’s path can make the difference between a strike and a gutterball.
Keep the Ball Low to the Ground
The last thing you want to do is to chuck the bowling ball down the lane. If you’re getting more than half a second of air time on your bowling ball before it actually hits the ground, then you’re not only going to lose control of the ball, but you may even damage the bowling lane itself.
